Ensuring the Safety of Our Animal Companions

Being kind to animals is a fundamental expectation we should all have. Thankfully, there are heroes all around the world working tirelessly to protect and improve the lives of animals. These individuals deserve our utmost respect and recognition for the incredible impact they make. One such hero is 10-year-old Brady Snakovsky from Strongsville, Ohio.

Two years ago, Brady learned that police dogs do not automatically receive bulletproof vests like their human handlers do. This revelation deeply troubled him. While watching an episode of Live PD with his mom, Leah Tornabene, Brady became aware that police K-9s often face dangerous situations without the same level of protection. Unwilling to accept this, Brady took it upon himself to make a difference.

Brady and his first four vests

Creating a GoFundMe page, Brady sought donations to purchase more vests for the courageous dogs serving in the police force. In February 2018, with enough funds raised, Brady bought his first four vests for the Ohio State Troopers. This was just the beginning of his remarkable journey.

Brady took his mission seriously, writing to local congressmen for support and spreading the word about his cause. Consequently, Brady’s K9 Fund was established as a non-profit organization dedicated to raising funds for bulletproof vests for police and military dogs. Today, Brady’s K9 Fund has provided a total of 257 dogs with protective vests, raising an incredible $315,000.

Leah, Brady’s proud mother, recalls, “We were watching the show together, and I didn’t even notice that the dog wasn’t wearing a vest. I was quite surprised that a child at age eight could recognize that there was an issue there, and that he could find a solution to fix that problem. It made me very proud to see him doing this.”

What makes Brady’s story even more extraordinary is his aspiration to become a police officer like his stepfather when he grows up. His desire to protect others and ensure their safety is truly inspiring.

“I like seeing the smile on the handler’s face,” Brady says.
