Living in New York, Leslie and Grahame were fortunate to not face the same racial challenges that plagued the rest of the country. However, they did receive hate mail due to their interracial marriage. Though hurtful, Leslie remained resilient.
In an interview with PEOPLE, Leslie shared, “It wasn’t as difficult as I anticipated. I believe the reason is that Grahame was not a white American man.” Nevertheless, the hate mail served as a stark reminder that prejudice still existed.
A Lifetime of Love and Success
Grahame became Leslie’s manager, and together they built a beautiful family. Today, they are proud parents to two daughters, Danielle and Justice, and grandparents to a granddaughter named Cassidy. While Leslie’s career flourished, with notable roles in acclaimed miniseries like “Roots” and “Backstairs at the White House,” it is their enduring love that remains the centerpiece of their lives.
