Have you ever dreamed of living in an extraordinary and unique home? Jo Ann Ussery, a remarkable individual, turned her dream into a reality by transforming an old Boeing 727 airliner into a one-of-a-kind residence. Her story is a testament to human creativity, perseverance, and the ability to think outside the box.

A Vision Takes Flight

Jo Ann’s passion for aircraft and her adventurous spirit led her on a remarkable journey. In the early 2000s, she purchased a retired Boeing 727 plane. Instead of seeing it as scrap, she saw its potential as a home and embarked on an ambitious endeavor to convert it into a suitable living space.

A Home Like No Other

With unwavering dedication, Jo Ann methodically designed and restored the interior of the plane, turning its cabins into a warm and unique house. Though the project had its challenges, her perseverance paid off. Today, her Boeing 727 residence stands proudly in the woods, drawing international attention and admiration.

Ingenuity Knows No Bounds

Jo Ann’s extraordinary home represents true ingenuity and the power to think beyond conventional housing solutions. Her story is an inspiration to anyone with dreams and passions, showcasing that with devotion and innovation, the sky is truly the limit.

A Journey Begins

Jo Ann’s journey began in 1993 when her home in Benoit, Mississippi was destroyed, leaving her as a widowed mother with limited funds. Finding a new place to live was a daunting task. Initially considering a trailer, she soon realized it wouldn’t accommodate her large family.

A Unique Idea Takes Flight

It was then that Jo Ann’s in-law, Bob, an air traffic controller, suggested something out of the ordinary – living on a plane. Intrigued by the idea, she went to see a disassembled Boeing 727 and instantly fell in love. With a budget of just $30,000, she bought the plane for a mere $2,000, shipping included.

The Journey to Transformation

Affectionately named “Little Trump,” after discovering that Donald Trump also owned a private Boeing 727, the plane was placed on Jo Ann’s property with its nose pointing out over a scenic lake for stability. The tail was firmly secured with concrete.

A Dream Takes Shape

Within the plane’s 1,500 square feet of interior space, Jo Ann wasted no time in revamping it. Despite the non-functioning windows, she ensured a comfortable living environment with air conditioning. The major renovations included three bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen, and even a laundry facility.

A Lavish Retreat

Jo Ann’s most impressive transformation was turning the cockpit into a luxurious master bathroom complete with a soaking tub. The layout was designed to give users a sense of floating while enjoying the breathtaking view of the lake.

Jo Ann’s Legacy

Remarkably, Jo Ann completed the entire renovation herself and happily lived aboard her converted plane from 1995 to 1999. Eventually, she decided to transform it into a public museum. Unfortunately, during the process of relocation, the plane slipped off the carriage and disintegrated. Despite this setback, Jo Ann’s ingenuity and determination left an indelible mark on the world of unique housing.

Jo Ann Ussery’s Boeing 727 home is a testament to the power of imagination and the ability to turn dreams into reality. Her extraordinary journey serves as an inspiration to all who aspire to think outside the box and pursue their passions.
