Retired United States Army First Class Sergeant Luciano Yulfo recently experienced an unforgettable moment during a New York Knicks game at Madison Square Garden. Little did he know that the team’s Hoops For Troops had a big surprise in store for him!

During his remarkable 36-year military career, Yulfo served with pride and dedication in both Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. Sadly, he was injured during his deployment in Afghanistan, leading to his medical retirement from active duty in 2014. For the next two years, Yulfo was stationed at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Finally, in April 2016, he officially retired from the military, more than three decades after he had enlisted.

Upon returning to the United States, Yulfo applied for a service dog to assist him in coping with his overseas injuries. However, he found himself anxiously waiting for 18 long months due to a high demand. Moved by Yulfo’s story, the New York Knicks decided to step in and lend a helping hand.

During a break in the game, Yulfo was invited onto the court, not knowing what awaited him. To his astonishment, he was presented with a personalized Knicks jersey. But the surprises did not end there. The team had something truly extraordinary planned for him – a new service dog!

The organization behind this heartwarming gesture is called Paws of War, a group that trains and places rescue dogs with U.S. military veterans. For Yulfo, they handpicked a dog named Murphy, who was specifically trained to address his unique needs. It was apparent from the very beginning that Yulfo and Murphy had an immediate connection, as they got down on the floor together.

This beautiful moment, captured on video, showcases the profound bond between a veteran and his service dog. Yulfo’s emotional reaction speaks volumes about the impact that Murphy will have on his life moving forward. They are destined to be the best of friends for many years to come!

Let us all celebrate this heartwarming story by sharing it with our friends and family. It serves as a reminder of the incredible people who have served our country and the special gestures that bring them joy in their everyday lives.
