People need to stay away from Hemsby beach due to a dangerous situation caused by the collapse of a cliff-top road. High tides and strong winds have resulted in significant damage in Hemsby, Norfolk, with several feet of cliff and dunes being washed away on Friday. Daniel Hurd, the lifeboat coxswain, has urged people to stay away from the area, as it is too dangerous. In Suffolk, another road has collapsed onto Pakefield Holiday Park beach in Lowestoft, leading to similar warnings to stay away from the dangerous beach. In Hemsby, erosion caused by the spring tide has led to fallen power lines, stranded cars on The Marrams (the road parallel to the cliff), and a disabled resident unable to leave their home. “The situation is dire. People can’t access their homes, there’s no water supply—it’s a complete disaster,” said Mr. Hurd. The lifeboat crew, who are independent and not part of the RNLI, are assisting residents affected by the situation. Norfolk Police have also closed off some roads. Hemsby Lifeboat issued a social media post stating: “The road along The Marrams to the south has also fallen into the sea, limiting access and creating extremely dangerous conditions. “The Gap area and dunes are highly unstable, and we urge visitors to the beach this weekend to exercise extreme caution. “If you’re near the Gap area, please avoid the edge and the base of the dunes, as there is a high risk of further collapse.”
