Jamie Lee Curtis, the 64-year-old actor, is still riding high on her big win at the Oscars. During her appearance on the Today show, Curtis shared her excitement about winning an Academy Award for her role in “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” She expressed her gratitude for the gesture of appreciation, saying, “The longing for attention and appreciation for your work is universal.”

But Curtis’s joy extends beyond her own achievement. In a heartwarming moment, she revealed why she decided not to name her Oscar statuette. In support of her transgender daughter, Ruby, Curtis will be referring to the statuette as they/them. She explained, “In honor of my daughter Ruby, I’m having them be a they/them. I’m just going to call them ‘them’, they/them, and they are doing great.”

Curtis acknowledged that supporting a transgender child is a journey of learning and understanding. She admitted that it’s like speaking a new language and that she’s new to it. But despite the challenges, Curtis is committed to getting it right. She said, “I’m going to make mistakes. […] But if one person reads this, sees a picture of Ruby and me and says, ‘I feel free to say this is who I am,’ then it’s worth it.”

Ruby, now 26 years old, has chosen to live a private life away from the Hollywood spotlight. Working as a video editor for a popular gaming personality on YouTube, Ruby has found her own passion and is flourishing. Curtis shared that while she knew Ruby had a boyfriend and identified as bisexual, gender identity and sexual orientation are separate journeys altogether.

As Curtis basks in the joy of her well-deserved win, she is also proud to be an ally to the transgender community. Her support for her daughter and her advocacy for acceptance and understanding sends a powerful message. Curtis’s choice to refer to her Oscar statuette as they/them is a small but meaningful act of solidarity.

Congratulations to Jamie Lee Curtis on her remarkable achievement, and kudos to her for being such a loving and supportive mother. Her journey as both an Oscar winner and an ally is an inspiration to us all.
