In a fiery outburst, Elon Musk, owner of X, launched a verbal attack on Disney’s CEO Bob Iger, demanding that he be fired. Musk, known for his eccentric behavior and sometimes questionable remarks, voiced his anger over Disney’s decision to remove advertisements from his troubled social media platform. He even suggested that Walt Disney himself would be appalled at what Iger had done to the company.

Disney, like many other companies, halted its advertising on X after Musk endorsed an anti-Semitic conspiracy theory that was embraced by white supremacists. Musk issued a somewhat apologetic statement last week, but also used profanity-laced language towards companies that refused to advertise on his platform.

At The New York Times DealBook Summit, Musk specifically targeted Iger, expressing his displeasure. Iger had earlier explained that Disney chose to stop advertising on X because of Musk’s association with the platform. While praising Iger’s successful tenure at Disney, Musk argued against the decision, indicating that it had negative consequences.

Aside from Disney’s move, there has been a growing concern about hate speech, misinformation, and conspiracy theories on X since Musk took over in late 2022. Musk himself has contributed to the toxicity on the platform by promoting false and dangerous narratives, attacking the press, and aligning with extremists.

The withdrawal of major advertisers has had a significant financial impact on X, as the platform heavily relies on advertising revenue. Musk even admitted at the DealBook Summit that the boycott could ultimately lead to the demise of his company.

However, instead of taking personal responsibility for the current state of affairs, Musk has shifted the blame onto the advertisers, suggesting that they will be responsible for X’s potential downfall.

The fate of X hangs in the balance, and as the controversy continues, the spotlight remains on Musk’s leadership and the future of the platform.
