NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, 76, was hospitalized on Friday night after an unfortunate fall at a concert, resulting in a broken hip. According to his longtime business partner, Deborah Morales, Abdul-Jabbar is scheduled to undergo surgery on Saturday. The incident occurred while he was attending the concert.

“We are deeply grateful for all the support for Kareem, especially from the Los Angeles Fire Department and the incredible medical team at UCLA Hospital who are providing excellent care,” Morales stated.

The statement did not mention the specific concert where the accident took place. Known for his remarkable career with the Milwaukee Bucks and the Los Angeles Lakers, Abdul-Jabbar played a crucial role during the Lakers’ dominant “Showtime” era in the 1980s, leading them to five NBA championships.

As a 7-foot-2 center sporting goggles, Abdul-Jabbar held the all-time scoring record in the NBA for an impressive 39 years until LeBron James surpassed him in February. With six NBA MVP awards to his name, Abdul-Jabbar is not only a basketball icon but also an activist and writer.

Abdul-Jabbar bravely disclosed his battle with prostate cancer in 2020, and in 2009, he revealed his diagnosis of chronic myeloid leukemia, a type of blood cancer.

Our thoughts and well wishes go out to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for a speedy recovery.
