Witnessing the innocence and love of children can warm even the coldest hearts. This heart-wrenching moment captured on camera has touched people around the world. Matt Sooter, a father from Arkansas, took a photo of his 4-year-old daughter, Adalynn “Addy”, as her 6-year-old brother said a final goodnight. Addy was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, placing her in a battle that no child should have to face.

In a heartfelt post, Matt expressed just how hard it is for a little boy to bid farewell to his partner in crime, playmate, and best friend. The photo resonated with over 8,000 people, igniting a desire within the family to raise awareness about this devastating disease.

The Sooter family’s world was turned upside down in November 2016 when they received the devastating news that Addy had Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), a rare tumor that develops in the brainstem. Addy endured 18 months with this growing tumor until her symptoms worsened.

In a Facebook update, Matt shared the rapid decline of his brave daughter. Just a day and a half before, Addy woke up her spunky and playful self. But now, she struggled to eat and swallow, and spent most of her time sleeping. They made the difficult decision to admit her into inpatient care, knowing that time was running out.

One remarkable aspect of this heartbreaking story is the unwavering devotion of Addy’s big brother, Jackson. Matt shared the emotional journey of the siblings, revealing that Jackson refused to leave his sister’s side. After saying goodnight and expressing his love, little Addy peacefully passed away.

Hours later, the family announced Addy’s passing on the Facebook page “Hope for Addy Joy – Fighting DIPG.” The tribute to their daughter conveyed both sorrow and peace, as they described her transition from this life to the next. Surrounded by loved ones, Addy left this world without experiencing pain.

In honor of Addy’s giving heart, the family selflessly donated her tumors for scientific research. Both her brain and spine tumors will contribute to future studies, with the hope of preventing other children from suffering a similar fate. This gesture exemplifies the compassionate nature of their sweet girl.

Sadly, most of us have been touched by the devastating effects of diseases like these, but it’s especially heart-wrenching when it affects innocent children. Rest in peace, little angel Addy. Your story has touched the world, and your loving spirit will forever remain in our hearts.
