It’s been five years since Kathie Lee Gifford bid farewell to our screens alongside Hoda Kotb as cohosts of the fourth hour of Today. But don’t worry – the two have remained in touch. In fact, Hoda recently gave fans an exciting update on Kathie’s whereabouts and what she’s been up to lately.
During the “Faves and Finds” segment, Hoda introduced a brand new song written by Kathie, titled “3 Little Words.” It seems that Kathie has found a new passion for music, and she’s been pouring her heart into creating beautiful melodies. Hoda couldn’t help but gush about her former cohost, sharing, “By the way, Kat’s living her best life. She’s in Nashville, she’s writing music, she is living her best life. She’s playing with the cutest grandkids, putting out good music. So Kat, love you.”
Kathie Lee Gifford joined Today as a cohost in 2008, alongside Hoda Kotb. However, in April 2019, she decided it was time to move on, and Jenna Bush Hager took her place. Kathie shared that the passing of her husband in 2015 and her mom shortly after made her realize the importance of cherishing every moment. “After my husband passed, you really realize that you’re gonna run out of time. He didn’t know that morning he was running out of time. And then my mom passed, as well.”
Kathie went on to explain that she found herself in a new chapter of life, one that she never anticipated. She said, “I realized just recently that I’m in a state where I never dreamed I’d be. I’m a widow, I’m an orphan, and I’m an empty nester. And that just hit me like a ton of bricks. For the first time in my life, I have the time and the means to go and do anything I want to do.”
Since her departure from the Today show, Kathie Lee Gifford has made Nashville her new home. It seems she has been enjoying the freedom to pursue various projects, including writing a book and working on a “dream project.” And of course, one of the greatest joys in Kathie’s life is watching her three adorable grandchildren grow up.
