Can you imagine the extent a person will go to in order to save the life of another? Bob Nill was the kind of generous, warm-hearted, and loving person.

The 88-year-old previously worked in finance and served in the Coast Guard. He wanted to keep himself busy after retiring five years ago, so he took a position as a crossing guard at Christ the King Catholic School in Kansas City, Kansas.

All of the students addressed him as Mr. Bob.

Unfortunately, this wonderfully caring father died after saving two children from being hit by a speeding black automobile. Witnesses at the incident describe how he prevented the children from being hit by the automobile but was hit himself.

“He stopped [two youngsters], and they listened, thank God,” recalled school principal Cathy Fithlan, “but then he, of course, was the victim.”

Everyone thinks Bob is a remarkable man. Randy, his nephew, notes that the family was not surprised by Bob’s behavior because he was always concerned about everyone.

“What my Uncle Bob did for just moving tiny kids across the street appeared maybe inconsequential to some people, but for him, it was a really essential task, and today, we really know how vital it was. He might have saved some lives.”
“I think he felt like he could help children while also making himself feel good about what he was doing,” Randy continued.

In a statement, the school paid respect to Bob, claiming he died as a hero.

“We’d like to provide you with an update on our crossing guard, Mr. Nill. We are saddened to notify you of his death. Please continue to pray for Mr. Nill and his family, as well as the students, parents, and instructors who witnessed the accident today.
