“Wheel of Fortune” host Pat Sajak recently shared his experience of undergoing emergency surgery for a clogged intestine. In an exclusive interview with “Good Morning America,” Sajak revealed that he had feared for his life just before the surgery.

Last November, while taking his daughter for a daily stroll, Sajak started experiencing excruciating pain. Within a few hours, he found himself doubled over in agony, on the verge of surgery. “I was lying on the bed in the fetal position,” he recalled. “They tried various drugs to manage my discomfort, but nothing worked.”

However, after receiving medication from his doctors, Sajak’s anguish was suddenly replaced by a different experience. “All of a sudden, I wasn’t thinking about the pain,” he said. “I had this extraordinary visual experience, with vibrant colors and a face appearing before me.” Despite feeling like he was miles away from his wife and daughter, he remained conscious of their presence. Sajak even remarked, “I guess this must be death.”

Thankfully, Sajak’s concerns about dying were unfounded, and the surgery was a success. Reflecting on his initial fear, he jokingly admitted, “It turns out I was only stoned.” The doctors found no underlying cause for the intestinal blockage, so Sajak doesn’t need to make any significant lifestyle changes. He has been feeling fantastic since the surgery and has resumed working on the show.

During his recovery period, Sajak’s longtime co-host, Vanna White, stepped in to host the show. Sajak playfully expressed his worry that she might replace him permanently, stating, “I learned she enjoys hosting, and I’m a little nervous.” However, he affirmed that he still holds his position and vows to keep selling vowels for a very long time.

Ryan Seacrest to Take Over as New Host

After Pat Sajak’s retirement announcement from “Wheel of Fortune,” speculation ran rampant about who would succeed him as the beloved game show’s host. Many wondered if Vanna White would step into the role or if the show would bring in a fresh face known for their incredible work ethic. However, it has now been officially revealed that Ryan Seacrest will be taking over as the new host.

In an official statement, Ryan Seacrest expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of the legendary Pat Sajak, who has been the host of the syndicated edition of “Wheel of Fortune” since 1983. Seacrest humbly acknowledged Sajak’s immense contribution to the show, saying, “I’m truly humbled to be stepping into this role. For 40 years, Pat and Vanna have brought joy and laughter into our homes every night, making us feel right at home. Pat, I admire how you have always uplifted the contestants and made the audience feel at ease. As we navigate this transition, I am excited to learn from you and continue the incredible legacy of spinning the wheel.”
