When summer vacation comes, many teenagers find themselves at a loss for how to spend their free time. Some take up part-time jobs, others attend camps or embark on family vacations. However, one young girl from West Virginia had a clear plan in mind for her summer break: Ellie Yeater, just 14 years old, was determined to transform an old 1974 camper into a stunning space where she could enjoy the company of her friends. And the end result? Prepare to be amazed!

Ellie embarked on her renovation adventure in the summer of 2016. Armed with money she had saved from her birthdays, she purchased the vintage camper and began her remarkable transformation. While the project required a significant amount of work, Ellie had the support and guidance of her father and brother, both experienced renovators.

The first step was restoring the camper’s interior, which had remained untouched since the 70s. It was evident that a thorough renovation was in order. “It needed work… lots of work,” recalled Ellie’s mom, Lori, in an interview with Woodcraft. Undeterred by the challenges, Ellie began by scraping the worn-out floors, removing the rot, and preparing for the exciting changes that lay ahead.

Once the groundwork was complete, Ellie set about injecting her personal style into the camper. The first order of business was a fresh coat of paint, transforming the exterior into a vibrant and inviting shade of blue called “mystic sea.” With the exterior shining, it was time to turn her attention to the interior.

Ellie opted for a warm peach color scheme inside, expertly accented with aqua blue touches. The transformation was further complemented by a brand new wood-patterned floor, replacing the outdated 70s tiles. To add a touch of coziness, Ellie’s grandmother joined in on the project, sewing curtains, towels, and pillowcases tailored to the camper’s unique style.

In the span of a single summer, Ellie had successfully transformed the camper into her personal haven. The before and after pictures speak volumes about the immense effort and creativity put into the project. It’s truly impressive to consider that a 14-year-old took on such a challenge and emerged victorious.

Throughout her journey, Ellie received valuable advice and guidance from her loved ones, who were enthusiastic about supporting her summer project. And now, they have an open invitation to enjoy her delightful camper.

“I have never told her that she couldn’t do anything. She has always been an out-of-the-box thinker. I don’t want her to ever feel she has to color inside the lines. I want her to color the entire page!” shared Ellie’s proud mother, Lori.

Ellie’s camper renovation is a shining example of constructive use of time during summer vacation. Let’s give Ellie a well-deserved round of applause for her exceptional work!
