In a heart-stopping incident, a seven-year-old boy named Chase Poust displayed incredible bravery by swimming for an hour to get help for his family when they found themselves in a dangerous situation. The incident occurred at the St. Johns River near Mandarin Point in Jacksonville, Florida during the Memorial Day weekend on May 28.

Chase, his father Steven, and four-year-old sister Abigail had gone out on a boat for some family fun. While Steven was fishing, the two children decided to take a swim nearby. However, a strong current quickly separated them from the boat.

Chase, without a life jacket, bravely let go of the boat to help his sister, who was wearing a life jacket. Despite his father jumping into the water, little Abigail continued to drift away. In a race against time, Chase mustered up all his courage and started swimming towards shore.

Using a combination of doggie paddle and floatation on his back, Chase battled against the current for an entire hour to reach dry land. Once he made it to the shore, he wasted no time and ran for help. His cries and gestures caught the attention of a kind stranger who came to their rescue.

The Sheriff’s Office and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission helped rescue Steven and Abigail, who had drifted a mile away from their boat. Fortunately, all three of them were safe and sound.

This incredible story serves as a reminder to all parents to exercise extreme caution when spending time on the water with their children. Things can change in the blink of an eye. It is crucial to be vigilant and prepared for any unexpected situations.
