It’s no secret that the world around us is changing rapidly. As someone who’s grown a little older and maybe a touch grumpier, I can’t help but feel like the respect for our military has dwindled over the years. But amidst this concern, I stumbled upon a story that brought a smile to my face.

Heather Almond, a proud mother, shared her heartwarming experience on Facebook. Her son, Gavin, had enlisted in the US Army to serve and protect his country. Being away from loved ones is an inevitable part of a soldier’s life, especially during basic training. So when Heather got the chance to spend a weekend with Gavin at Fort Benning, Georgia, she couldn’t contain her excitement. It was an opportunity to celebrate their cherished time together.

Heather decided to take Gavin out for lunch at a local sushi restaurant. Little did they know, this lunch would turn into a beautiful moment they would never forget. As they asked for the check, the waitress surprised them with joyous news. The people at a nearby table had already paid their bill and wanted to thank Gavin for his service. The kind strangers had left before Heather could properly thank them, but she managed to capture a picture of Gavin with one of them in the background.

Believe me, this gesture meant the world to both Heather and Gavin. It’s stories like these that remind us of the goodness and appreciation that still exist in our society. We need more acts of gratitude like this!
