Filters and Photoshop move over, artificial intelligence (AI) is the new trend for creating online profile pictures.

Have you ever wondered if your profile picture could make a difference in getting a job? Well, it turns out that AI-created profile pictures might just be the secret weapon you need.

In recent months, AI-powered apps like Remini, Try It On AI, and AI Suit Up have gained popularity for their ability to produce professional-looking profile photos. These apps use AI-based software to create images that rival those taken by expert photographers.

The process is simple: all you need to do is upload eight to ten selfies, preferably taken from different angles and in good lighting. The AI software then analyzes your photos to learn about your unique features. Within minutes, it generates artificial photos that make you look smart, glamorous, and even thinner. It enhances your skin, improves your makeup, and provides various backdrops.

Opinions on the results vary. Some users find the AI-generated images to be realistic, while others think they look artificial. However, what sets this trend apart is its focus on professional platforms like LinkedIn and other job hunting websites.

One major advantage of using AI headshots is the cost. Going to a professional photographer can be expensive, often costing more than £100. In contrast, AI services like Remini offer free trials that last a few days. Digital marketer Divya Shishodia from Australia explains, “While AI headshots may not be the most realistic, the output is worth it considering the time and effort saved. Taking a decent profile photo yourself is quite challenging without proper equipment and expertise.”

The low to no cost factor is also attractive to others. Michelle Genobisa from Denmark says, “I enjoy changing my looks, like my hair color, quite often. AI-generated profile photos provide an easy and affordable way to have professional-looking pictures without breaking the bank.”

However, not everyone is impressed by the technology. Molly McCrann, an actor from Australia, believes that AI-generated profile photos look heavily edited and fake. She suggests that showing prospective employers your true appearance might be more authentic.

Ultimately, the use of AI-improved images comes with both advantages and potential pitfalls. On the one hand, it allows us to present our best selves and increase our chances of being considered for opportunities. On the other hand, it may negatively impact self-esteem and lead to feelings of inadequacy.

Tristan Barthel from London-based Tate Recruitment shares that, as a recruiter, whether a picture has been AI-generated or not does not affect his decision-making process. For him, qualifications are what matter most.

So, would you consider using an AI-generated profile picture to land your dream job? The choice is yours!
