Dolly Parton, the beloved 76-year-old music icon, has captivated audiences throughout her legendary career. Known for her incredible performances and timeless music, she has amassed a horde of dedicated fans. However, in a recent interview with Pollystar, Dolly announced that she will no longer be going on tour.

Choosing a New Path

“From time to time, I will still put on one-of-a-kind shows,” Dolly shared. “I might perform a few shows during a festival or throughout a long weekend. However, I no longer intend to go on a full-fledged tour.”

Dolly’s decision stems from her desire to spend more time with her beloved husband, Carl Thomas Dean. Married for over 50 years, their love story is one for the ages.

A Love That Lasts a Lifetime

Dolly and Carl first met in front of the Wishy Washy Laundromat in Nashville, Tennessee, back in 1964. At the time, Dolly was just 18 years old, while Carl was 21. Upon seeing her, Carl immediately knew he had found something special.

“I’m going to marry that girl,” Carl told Dolly when they first met. Little did they know that this encounter would be the beginning of a lifelong commitment. Dolly recalls how Carl hollered at her from his pickup truck, and even though she initially declined his invitation for a date, fate would bring them back together a few days later. And so, their love tale began.

Despite facing pressure to postpone their wedding due to Dolly’s budding career, the couple decided to marry in a private ceremony in Ringgold, Georgia, in May 1966. With only Dolly, Carl, and her mother in attendance, they sealed their love without any fuss. Since then, their bond has only grown stronger.

Embracing New Beginnings

As Dolly and Carl celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary, they have decided to renew their vows. This special occasion has prompted Dolly to reflect on her decision to step away from touring.

“I’ve spent my entire life on the road, and it takes a lot of time and work,” Dolly shared in an interview with Pollstar. “Now, I prefer to stay closer to home with my husband. We are getting older, and I don’t want to be away for extended periods. Life is unpredictable, and I want to be there for my loved ones if they need me.”

Her love for her husband extends to her music as well. Dolly reveals that in her upcoming musical compositions, her husband will find a touch of rock ‘n’ roll. Earlier this year, she was nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which has inspired her to explore this genre further.

“Since my husband is a tremendous hard rock ‘n’ roll fan, I thought, ‘Why not now?’ I’ve been wanting to do an album just for him, and this nomination gave me the perfect opportunity,” Dolly shared enthusiastically.

While taking a break from touring, Dolly is also working on a special Christmas album and a holiday special for NBC. Despite not being on the road, Dolly’s music and presence will continue to fill our hearts and bring joy to us all.

Dolly, thank you for your incredible talent and generosity. Take this well-deserved break, relax, and cherish all the love and adoration your fans have for you. Your legacy will forever be remembered.
