For one young couple, Savannah Combs and Justin Ackerman, the news of expecting twins was an exciting surprise. Savannah had to endure the hardships of being admitted to the hospital at 29 weeks, where she delivered her identical twin girls prematurely on May 12, 2021[3]. As mono-di twins, they had their own sacs but shared the same placenta, making them truly identical[3]. Being born prematurely, Kennadi and Mckenli had to spend several weeks in the neonatal intensive care unit before being able to come home[3].
Even with their rare condition, Savannah wants the world to know that her girls are just like any other children. They have feelings, hearts that beat, and the ability to learn and grow[3]. Savannah shares their adorable updates on TikTok as they reach important milestones, demonstrating that despite any delays, they are determined and happy little individuals[3].
Unfortunately, some people feel the need to criticize Savannah and her family, demonstrating a lack of understanding and empathy. But Savannah has stood up against such ignorance. In response to insensitive comments on social media, she confidently replied, “Good thing they weren’t born to you and were born to me. God knew what he was doing by giving these babies to the right parents who would love them regardless”[3][4].
