Twin toddlers drown after grandmother with Alzheimer’s leaves door open – rest in peace

In a devastating incident, twin toddlers tragically lost their lives when their great-grandmother, who has Alzheimer’s, left the back door open and they wandered unsupervised into the family pool. Locklyn and Loreli, an 18-year-old brother and sister, were found unconscious in the murky water of their Oklahoma City home. Despite efforts to revive them, they sadly passed away.

The distraught mother, Jenny Callazzo, a stay-at-home mom of six children, runs a boutique and lives with her husband and grandmother. Aerial footage of the family’s home revealed a pool that was filled with dark green water, likely due to thick algae. Neighbors recall the heart-wrenching sight of Jenny by the EMS vehicle as rescue workers desperately tried to save her children.

Just days before the tragedy, Jenny had posted a photo of her playful twins captioned, “just want to play outside.” Her heartbreak and grief are unimaginable.

Importance of Pool Safety

This devastating incident serves as a tragic reminder of the importance of pool safety, especially when there are young children in the house. Laura Gamino, an injury prevention coordinator, emphasizes that children are naturally drawn to water and lack the skills to save themselves if they find themselves in a dangerous situation.

Drowning is a silent danger, without any warning signs or screams for help. Children can’t make noise if their mouths are filled with water, making it even more difficult to detect when they are in distress. As parents, it is crucial to take preventative measures to protect our little ones.

Protecting Our Children

Laura Gamino advises parents to ensure their pools have at least 4-foot-high fences with door handles that are unreachable for children. These safety measures can significantly reduce the risk of such tragic incidents from happening.
