Zubaida Hasan, a nine-year-old Afghan girl, grew up in a quiet village with a typical upbringing.
But everything changed on a single day in 2001. Zubaida was turning on the little gas stove for her family when she heard the loud explosion. She caught fire, causing massive damage.
Her facial skin melted into her chest as one arm was connected to her torso. A local doctor told Zubaida’s father that her situation was dismal and that she would not live.
However, Zubaida’s father demanded that his daughter not be executed, and what happened next was absolutely amazing.
After the horrible disaster, the physicians declared there was nothing they could do. They suggested that the father bring the girl home, sleep over her, and let her die.
Zubaida’s father, on the other hand, opted to take a chance and refused to give up. Despite the fact that the US military hospital does not normally accept civilians, he took Zubaida to a US military installation in Kabul, Afghanistan’s capital. The girl was accepted, though, because the doctors there recognized how much she was suffering.
Zubaida was airlifted to the United States and treated by burn expert plastic surgeon Peter Grossman.
Zubaida underwent several procedures, each of which necessitated skin grafts from various parts of her body.
Zubaida was a powerful young woman with a strong will. Dr. Grossman was impressed by Zubaida, and the two became good friends. The plastic surgeon and his wife welcomed her into their house and helped her get through the difficult times.
Zubaida learnt to speak English in 12 weeks, was enrolled in a neighboring school, and acquired many new friends.
Zubaida’s face was restored after just one year, thanks to the physicians’ hard work and the girl’s perseverance. She was able to resume singing, playing the guitar, and dancing.
Despite the fact that her physicians first felt she was hopeless, Zubaida was granted a second chance at life, and the metamorphosis she underwent is unprecedented!
