Jodie Foster says she hid her career from her kids: They ‘thought I was a construction worker’

Jodie Foster, the talented actress known for her roles in movies like “Silence of the Lambs,” has always strived to give her sons a normal upbringing, despite her fame. In an interview on “The View,” Foster revealed that she kept her acting career a secret from her children when they were younger. She wanted them to see her as their mom, not just a famous actress.

“I guess I just didn’t want them to know me that way,” Foster, 61, explained. “I wanted them to know me as their mom and the person who went away to work and stuff.” She didn’t want her career to confuse her kids or change how they viewed her.

Foster shared a heartwarming anecdote about bringing her oldest son, Charlie, to a film set when he was just three years old. She bought him a little plastic tool belt and told him she was a construction worker. For a while, Charlie believed that his mom worked in construction.

Now adults, Foster’s sons, Charlie and Kit, are both interested in the entertainment industry. Charlie has even pursued theater throughout school. However, Foster joked that her boys have no interest in watching her movies with her. She has a few films that she’s hesitant to show them, like “Nell,” in which she played a “wild child.”

Despite their varying interests, Foster believes that her sons might watch the new season of “True Detective: Night Country” because they are big fans of the show. She appreciates their support, even if it’s not specifically for her.

While Foster prefers to keep her private life out of the public eye, she did recently make a rare appearance on “The Tonight Show” with her son Charlie. The host, Jimmy Fallon, expressed his excitement to meet Charlie, who waved to the camera from the audience.

Although Foster’s sons are now in their 20s, she received some backlash for jokingly calling Generation Z “really annoying” in the workplace. Despite the criticism, Foster has always strived to offer advice and support to young actresses so that they don’t face the same hardships she did as a young star.

Let’s remember to focus on the positive and appreciate Jodie Foster’s dedication to motherhood and her successful career in the entertainment industry.
