Luke Combs took to Instagram to express his gratitude and admiration for Tracy Chapman following their memorable duet at the 66th Grammy Awards. The country star shared his thoughts on the whirlwind Grammy week and how it felt to share the stage with the legendary singer-songwriter.

Combs posted a carousel of photos featuring himself and Chapman. The first photo captured their beaming smiles on the night of their performance, while the second showed the musicians embracing each other on stage after their duet.

Reflecting on the experience, Combs wrote, “What an unreal Grammy week to say the least. There were so many laughs, tears, hugs, and cheers that it almost doesn’t seem real. When it comes to the performance, it’s still hard to process how amazing it really was to be up there on that stage. No doubt a defining moment of my career.”

He went on to express his sincere thanks to Chapman for allowing him to be a part of her moment and for the profound impact she has had on his musical journey and countless others’. Combs also acknowledged his team for their tireless efforts in making the performance happen and expressed gratitude to his wife, Nicole, for always being by his side.

At the Grammy Awards, the duo captivated the audience with their heartfelt rendition of Chapman’s 1989 hit song, “Fast Car.” Combs revealed that the song had been his favorite long before he even fully comprehended the concept of having a favorite song.

The process of securing the performance was no easy feat. Raj Kapoor, executive producer of the Grammys, shared that the idea of a “Fast Car” duet was conceived in May 2023.

Kapoor and executive producer Patrick Menton approached Chapman with the proposal, and after a long process, they finally received her approval in January.

Combs’ manager, Chris Kappy, emphasized that Chapman had complete creative control over the performance and ensured that she had every opportunity to shine.

The duet marked the culmination of Combs’ successful cover of “Fast Car,” which topped the country charts and reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, over three decades after its original release. His cover was also nominated for Best Country Solo Performance at this year’s Grammy Awards.

Luke Combs’ Instagram post is a testament to the deep appreciation and admiration he holds for Tracy Chapman. It was a truly unforgettable moment for both artists and showcased the power of music to unite and touch hearts.
