Patrick Dempsey, best known for his role as “McDreamy,” has just landed the coveted title of 2023’s Sexiest Man Alive. The 57-year-old actor was announced as the winner during a recent episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live.
“I’m glad it’s happening at this point in my life,” Dempsey shared with People. “It’s nice to have the recognition, and certainly my ego takes a little bump, but it gives me the platform to use it for something positive.”
People magazine has been honoring the “sexiest man alive” since 1985, with Mel Gibson being the first recipient of the title. Over the years, notable winners have included Harrison Ford, John Legend, Brad Pitt, Idris Elba, and Blake Shelton. Finally, this year, Dempsey was recognized for both his handsome looks and impressive career, which includes acting and professional race car driving.
When Dempsey heard the news, he was taken aback. “I was completely shocked, and then I started laughing, like, this is a joke, right? I’ve always been the bridesmaid!” he exclaimed. Despite his surprise, he jokingly admitted that he had never even considered being in this position. “So my ego is good.”
However, in true humble fashion, Dempsey credits his children for keeping him grounded. He mentioned that they are quick to tease him and find every reason why he shouldn’t have received the title. Dempsey welcomes their playful bantering, as it keeps him feeling youthful and connected.
