Simon Cowell, the beloved TV personality, has faced a series of health challenges, notably after two cycling accidents in the span of two years. During a recent appearance on the Today Show with his fellow America’s Got Talent judges, Simon opened up about these experiences.

The 63-year-old celebrity, known for his honesty and wit, previously had a crash on his e-bike in Malibu in 2020. He unfortunately suffered a similar fate while cycling in London in early 2022. These accidents had a profound impact on Simon’s outlook on life.

When asked about how the accident affected him, Simon candidly shared, “I wasn’t in good shape before the accident, so it wasn’t good, it was awful.” The accidents served as a wake-up call for him to prioritize his health and well-being.

During the recovery process, Simon realized how unfit he was and acknowledged the need for a change. He had a revelation, a truly divine moment, as he discovered his passion for cycling. Simon firmly stated, “I’m not giving up my bike. I am completely obsessed with these two-wheeled wonders.”

After the second incident, Simon was rushed to the hospital, where it was revealed that he had suffered a concussion and possibly a broken arm. Although the second accident wasn’t as severe as the first, Simon broke his back and had to wear a brace for a week.

These events propelled Simon to adopt a healthier lifestyle, especially for the sake of his nine-year-old son, Eric. His fiancée, Lauren Silverman, played a significant role in influencing his choices. In a candid interview, Simon revealed how the accidents forced him to seek treatment for the first time in his life.

Expressing his initial despair, Simon confessed that it was hard for him to convey his feelings to Eric. He wondered if he would ever be able to engage in physical activities with his son, such as playing soccer or going on walks.

Simon and Lauren welcomed Eric on Valentine’s Day in 2014. Simon later disclosed that his son came up with the perfect nickname for him after the bike accidents. When Simon returned home, feeling a little embarrassed, Eric compared him to the famous superhero, Iron Man.

With metal rods and screws in his back from the operation, Simon found solace in Eric’s comparison. “When I got back to my family, Eric said, ‘Dad, you look like Iron Man,’” Simon fondly recalled. “Yeah, I look like Iron Man,” he said with a smile. Simon managed to find humor in his misfortunate circumstances, despite the seriousness of the injuries he sustained while filming AGT in June 2021.

During the Today Show interview, Simon’s co-judge Terry Crews expressed curiosity about seeing Simon and Eric perform daring tricks, such as practicing Shaolin Kung Fu, as part of a family challenge. Simon playfully responded, “After I broke my back, I walked around the garden with Eric, and I thought it was a great achievement. But I couldn’t stop thinking, ‘Maybe that’s not such a good idea!’” Simon’s journey of perseverance and self-reflection serves as a testament to his indomitable spirit.

Despite the hardships he faced due to his bicycle accidents, Simon continues to lead an interesting life and maintains his love for riding. His ability to find humor in his experiences showcases his resilience and unwavering spirit.
