There is no love like that of Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter.

Jimmy Carter, 98, considers his marriage to Rosalynn Carter, 95, to be “the most important thing in my life.”

According to the longest living president of the United States, there are only two requirements for a happy and long marriage: “First and foremost, pick the proper person to marry,” Carter said on ABC’s “Good Morning America” on Monday. “And every night, we attempt to make sure we’re thoroughly reconciled from the day’s fights.”

In 2019, the Carters overtook George H.W. Bush and Barbara Bush as the longest-married presidential couple. In July 2022, they will celebrate their 76th wedding anniversary.

How do you keep the fire burning after all these years? The simplest solutions are frequently the finest.

Once a young Naval officer in the 1940s, the former president, who is now 98 years old, devised a way to express his love for his wife.

‘I adore you the most.’ “That’s what my mother and father used to say back and forth, and I picked it up with Rosa,” he said in a 2014 interview with People.

ILYTG became such an important part of their lives together that Jimmy etched it on a compact he gave to Rosalynn.

The records are on display at Atlanta’s Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum.

In addition, the Carter children, like Jimmy, have begun to use ILYTG among themselves.

“Now all of our children say ILYTG on the phone or in emails. “People usually just put their initials,” he explained. “And every now and then, they change the initials to make you guess what they’re talking about.”

Regardless, Carter has learned that it is critical to spend time together as a couple as well as “give each other lots of freedom to do our own thing.” They participate in activities such as fly fishing, bird watching, and church attendance on a regular basis. They read a Biblical passage together every night before bed.

Rosalynn Carter described their relationship as a “partnership” to the Associated Press on July 4. “I knew more about the business on paper than he did,” Rosalynn explained. “He’d follow my advise on things.”

The Carters’ relationship has grown closer over time, thanks in part to their time isolated at home in Plains, Georgia, during the coronavirus outbreak. During “GMA,” the 39th president stated that his and his wife’s love for each other has grown stronger over the course of their 75-year marriage. “I believe that is quite exceptional. It doesn’t happen to many couples, but it happened to us.”

It’s impossible not to fall in love with them. The Carters are the most real people you’ll ever meet.

I hope that God continues to bless them.
