Selleck shared, “The luckiest thing that happened was that I didn’t get a real job until I was 35. When I was 25, I looked 35 but sounded 15. Many talented actors make it as young leading men, but they struggle to transition into mature roles.”

Just when Selleck was on the verge of giving up on his acting dreams, Magnum, P.I. came along and changed his life. He admitted gratefully, “I suppose if Magnum, P.I. hadn’t worked out, I wouldn’t have worked again in this profession.”

Enduring Appeal and Talents

Since around 2010, Selleck has captivated audiences as Frank Reagan, the commissioner of the New York City Police Department, on the long-running TV series Blue Bloods. The show is now headed towards its thirteenth season, a testament to Selleck’s enduring appeal and talent.

However, Selleck’s commitment to performing his own stunts throughout his career has taken a toll on his physical well-being. He candidly revealed, “My back’s kind of messed up. When you do stunts in movies, you take risks, but you also spend a lot of time sitting around. There’s no personal trainer there, saying, ‘Okay, Tom needs ten minutes of stretching and warm-up.’”

To keep himself in shape, Selleck works on his farm in Ventura, California. He finds solace in spending time with his horses, a passion he shares with his daughter. Despite his success, Selleck remains grounded by his commitment to his family.

Family Comes First

Selleck and his wife, Jillie Mack, have been happily married for a significant amount of time. Unlike many Hollywood relationships, their bond is deeply rooted, and family is their priority. Selleck revealed in 2012, “I quit Magnum, P.I. to have a family. It took a long time to get off the train, but I try very hard to have balance, and this ranch has helped me do that.” His wife added, “We both thought it was the best environment for Hannah to grow up.”
