The upcoming SAG Awards are just around the corner and anticipation is building as A-list celebrities prepare for another glamorous night of recognition. However, unlike other award shows, the SAG Awards won’t have a host. Let’s find out why.

No Host Tradition

The SAG Awards have a long-standing tradition of not having a host since their inception in 1995. The only exception was in 2018 when Kristen Bell took on the role, followed by Megan Mullally in 2019. But in 2020, the SAG Awards went back to their original format and decided to continue airing the awards without a host.

Variety and Efficiency

The decision to go host-free was influenced by two main factors. First, when the Oscars went host-less in 2019, their ratings actually improved. Taking note of this, the producers of the SAG Awards believed that eliminating a host could help keep the show fresh and engaging for the viewers.

Additionally, the producers aimed to maintain a manageable runtime of two hours. They recognized that long award shows can become tedious, so by eliminating the host, they could streamline the event and focus on presenting the 13 awards voted on by the actors themselves.

Star-Studded Presenters

To compensate for the absence of a host, the SAG Awards will feature a star-studded lineup of presenters. This year, Idris Elba will open the ceremony, and Jennifer Aniston will have the honor of presenting the SAG Life Achievement Award to Barbra Streisand. Other notable presenters include Robert Downey Jr., Margot Robbie, Michael Cera, Issa Rae, America Ferrera, Sterling K. Brown, Tracee Ellis Ross, and Jeffrey Wright, among others.
